SECTION 10 - RACE RULES
Rule 1: Lapping - In the event that a driver is preparing to lap another competitor, the driver of the overtaken kart is obliged to give way and allow the lapping kart to pass. A driver must always be prepared for another kart to pass and must therefore be on the lookout for the approach from behind of other faster karts. The deliberate blocking of a faster kart is cause for disqualification.
Any foul driving, unnecessary bumping, crowding, chopping, blocking, pushing or unsportsmanlike conduct on the race course will be subject to immediate disqualification. If the overtaking driver is unable to pass the overtaken kart due to his/her failure to give way, the overtaking driver will raise his/her hand and point to the overtaken kart when passing the starting line, and on the next lap the starter will give the overtaking (blue) flag to the offending driver. If the driver still fails to give way, he/she will be black flagged to his/her pits and disqualified.
Racing - When two (2) karts are entering a turn together, the kart that's behind whether it be an inch or several feet, is required to negotiate the turn without endangering or impairing the process of the kart in front. Conversely, the kart in front should not take a deliberate line of the course for the purpose of crowding a following competitor off the course.
Rule 2: On the circuit, the officials may designate portions of the course as "caution zones". These areas indicate extraordinary hazard, requiring no passing or special care on the part of competitors.
Rule 3: When two karts arrive at a "caution zone" together, the overtaking kart shall not obstruct the overtaken kart, either by causing the overtaken kart to apply brakes or alter course.
Rule 4: During an event, it is expressly forbidden to drive or push a kart at any time, or under any condition, in a direction opposite to that in which the event is being run without specific approval of the race official. Infringement of this means immediate disqualification.
Rule 5: If for any reason a driver is forced to stop his/her kart on or near the racing course during an event, it should be his/her first duty to place the kart in such a manner as to not cause danger or obstruct over competitors.
Rule 6: Karts which have retired from the event or heat will proceed directly to the scales to be weighed.
Rule 7: Any driver who stalls on the start of an event must hold his/her arm vertically above their head as a warning to other competitors. No person may approach the kart until the remainder of the starting field has passed.
Rule 8: The kart frame is the official entry in the event and cannot be changed without permission of the race director. The kart cannot be reentered in the same event by the same driver. The original kart must be impounded until the race day is over.
Rule 9: If any component becomes disarranged so the opinion of the race director or starter thinks it is unsafe or illegal, the kart may be removed from the course by being black flagged. If in the opinion of the race director the defect cannot be repaired properly, the kart will be disqualified.
Rule 10: Post-race weigh-ins - All drivers are subject to a combined kart/driver weight. Points for heat races are awarded to only those who have weighed in and met minimum weight requirements for their class. Drivers are to proceed directly to the scales when leaving the race course. Any driver passing the scales and does not weigh-in after any heat or feature will be disqualified.
Rule 11: No pushing of one kart by another will be permitted at any time during the race. The pushing rule will be strictly enforced. If anyone is caught pushing, both the pusher and the pushed will be disqualified from the race and suspended from the next three (3) race events, and if caught again in the same year, they will then be suspended for the next six (6) months of racing events.
Rule 12: When the checkered flag is shown at the end of the race, at least (2) classes chosen at random (one 2 cycle and one 4 cycle) may be directed to the impound after weigh-in for post-race technical inspection. Refusal of any competitor to a post-race tech inspection will result in a disqualification of competitor and will be referred to the race director and could face up to a six month suspension.
Rule 13: No restarts after the green flag was waved.
Rule 14: Any competitor deliberately driving his/her kart onto the "shoulder" during a race will suffer a penalty for such "excursion" or will disqualified. The act for each such excursion will be free from penalty only if undertaken in circumstances of emergency such as to avoid an accident.
Rule 15: If during the process of the race, a driver inadvertently leaves the course with all four wheels off the track, he/she must rejoin the race at the nearest possible point compatible with the safety of himself and other competitors without improving his/her position. In the event that a kart comes to a complete stop, the driver shall not rejoin the race without the direct supervision of the corner worker/flagman.
Rule 16: If during the process of a race, a driver inadvertently comes to a stop on the course in the path of overtaken karts, he/she should remain in his/her kart, raising both arms above his/her head as a signal to other drivers that he/she will not move the kart and rejoin the race as provided above.
Rule 17: No passengers are allowed to be carried on the kart during practice or during an event.
